PONMUDI AND PEPPARA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

The hill station of PONMUDI lies in the tea-growing region of the Cardamom or
Ponmudi hills, about 60 kms northeast of Thiruvanathapuram and 77kms from
Kovalam.Located 1066 m above sea-level, on the top of a hill commanding breathtaking views out across the range as far as the sea,it comprises a range of
cottages, rooms and a restaurant. The main reason to come up here is that Ponmudi serves as the only practical base for visits to the 53 sq kms of forest set
aside as the Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary.which protects elephants,sambar,lion-
-tailed macaques, leopards and other assorted wildlife.Although Peppara is theoretically open all year, the main season is from January until May....
